Terms & Conditions (Revised June 2020).
Consultation and Research
We provide a free initial consultation of the family line or lines that you would like to research and offer advice you of the likelihood of a successful outcome. If we feel that the records are not available or that the research is not within our area of expertise we will advise you at this stage. We will be pleased to discuss the other options available.
Instruction
Following the free consultation we will confirm in writing (email) our confidence of continuing research based on the initial information that you have supplied us with. We will then ask for your formal instruction, a monetary deposit and acceptance of our Terms & Conditions.
Payment – Family Tree Packages.
Once the decision is made to go ahead with the research we require payment of a deposit (50% of the package price) before we continue with further research. We will send you an invoice and include remittance details. We accept payment by Paypal, bank transfer or cheque if this suits you better. We will advise you when the research is complete and require payment of all remaining money outstanding before printing and despatching your finished project.
Payment – Bespoke Research.
We will send you an invoice and include remittance details, and ask for payment in full as outlined on our invoice to instruct us. In accordance with The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel within a period of 14 days from placing your order, provided we have not commenced production of the Bespoke Work.
Once we have commenced production of the Bespoke Work the right to cancel is no longer applicable, in accordance with regulation 13(1)(c) of The Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000.
We accept payment by Paypal, bank transfer or cheque if this suits you better. We will advise you when the research is complete and require payment of any additional money outstanding before printing and despatching your finished project.
Completion of Research
We will endeavour to complete research and record our findings according to the timescale agreed, and keep you informed of any delays. We will prepare documentation according to the options you have chosen and paid for. Upon payment of cleared funds for all outstanding fees this will be delivered to you by a secure and signed for mail service.
Communication.
We will keep you informed via email of our progress during the course of our research.
Errors and Omissions
Please note that records are sometimes missing, misleading or inaccurate. Many historical records are illegible with varying degrees of clarity of handwriting, multiple spellings of surnames and variations create confusion. On occasions records have been damaged, destroyed or lost, or are not available for us to consult due to adoption/privacy laws.
For these reasons, all research projects are susceptible to the occasional inaccuracy, and despite our best intentions we cannot guarantee to find every member of your extended family. This is particularly relevant to individuals born within the last 100 years whose data is protected by privacy laws. It would be helpful if you could provide as much information as possible on known family members so that we don’t use research time to establish facts you already know, and so that they can be included in your family tree. We do our best to make every effort to verify the findings of the research and provide information of all sources referenced.
Sometimes in our work we come across research that has been carried out by others, for example online family trees. As the quality and accuracy of these is often questionable (e.g. carried out by inexperienced individuals, containing inaccurate or un-sourced information) our policy is not to use this information.
Should you believe there is a mistake in any of our research then please contact us so that we can rectify the error.
If any errors or omissions are discovered as a result of misinformation provided by yourself, we will be pleased to arrange for editing and where applicable re-printing of relevant documents for an additional fee.
Confidentiality
We take privacy & confidentiality of personal information very seriously. We are registered with the Information Commissioner as Data Controllers under the Data Protection Act (2018). ICO Registration number: ZA011292. We will not use your personal details for anything other than genealogical purposes, and will not pass your details to third parties without your express permission.
Delivery
Delivery is typically 12 weeks for Family History Packages. Delivery for Bespoke Research will vary depending on the nature of the project. If there are any delays (for example due to needing to order more certificates etc.) we will keep you informed. If you have a particular date in mind please let us know at outset and we will do our best to accommodate this.
Your research project will be delivered by a signed-for service to the address you give us, or electronically if appropriate.
Cancellation
You have the right to change your mind. If you decide not to proceed with your research project please advise us in writing, at which point we will calculate the cost of research hours completed and expenses (such as the cost of purchasing certificates) and refund any difference to you. If the balance exceeds the amount you have paid us in your deposit, we will invoice you with the remaining balance.

In accordance with EU General Data Protection Regulation Compliance (GDPR Act 2018) and UK Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018) we confirm our intentions with the information you supply:-
In order to receive information or services from History Angels, you will be asked to supply personal information about yourself (e.g. name, address, email address). Other personal information such as date of birth and family information will also need to be provided by you in order for genealogy research to take place.
We use this information for the following:-
To create a family tree
To communicate with you
To deliver your research
Any information we obtain will only be used for research, record keeping and accounting purposes by History Angels. No information will be shared with third parties or passed on to any other parties, unless this is at your request (e.g. sending a research report to a relative on your behalf). Information will be retained until such a time as you request information is removed from our records.
Data Protection Act 2018 - We are very aware that the information we hold about you is sensitive. We are registered as Data Controllers under the Data Protection Act 2018 (ICO Registration number: ZA011292). Any information we have is stored in as secure a manner as possible, including password-protected files.
You have the right to request a copy of the personal information that we hold about you and to have any inaccuracies corrected. Please address any such request to the contact details on this web site.
For PayPal payments, your email address will be used by us and PayPal to initiate a payment request. All such PayPal transactions take place in a secure web site environment and are governed by strict terms and conditions. We have no access to your card or bank details and you are covered by PayPal’s Buyer’s Protection Guarantee.
We do not engage in bulk email or newsletter type marketing activities or give/sell your information to any third party. All emails received from us will be sent on a personal basis in direct relation to your enquiry or research currently being undertaken.
